Recent polls show gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp and U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker are leading their races for the GOP nominations.
A FOX 5 Atlanta report March 3 highlighted a statewide poll of 750 likely primary voters, stating Kemp polled at 44% with former Sen. David Perdue at 35%.
“What stood out was there is still a significant amount of people who are not aware that Trump's made an endorsement in the governor's race and that has a tremendous impact. We find among people who do know Trump made an endorsement that Perdue had a lead, but on the whole, Kemp still has about a 10-point lead," Robert Cahaly, chief pollster and founder of the Trafalgar Group told FOX 5 Atlanta.
As the race comes closer to Election Day, the report states the race could come down to a few thousand votes as to whether there is a runoff on either side.
"You'll also see people who are for lesser-known candidates who early on say that's who they're for and then as they get closer to the election and they're kind of two behemoths, they end up siding with one of them,” Cahaly said.
Among candidates for the U.S. Senate nomination, Walker held a significant lead, comprising nearly 62% of the vote in polling.
In a February poll of 1,000 likely voters, Kemp pulled 49.1% of the people surveyed, while Perdue held 39.5%, marking a slight decrease over the past month.
At that time, Walker accounted for nearly 70% in early Senate polling.
