In the 2021-22 USA Today Sports/WBCA Coaches Preseason Poll, the Georgia Tech women’s basketball opened their season ranked No. 20 in the league.
In addition to their overall ranking, Georgia Tech was also tabbed as No. 17 in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 last month, according to a Nov. 3 press release from Georgia Tech.
“Georgia Tech is one of four teams from the ACC in the top 25, joining No. 4 NC State, No. 6 Louisville and No. 24 Florida State. The Jackets were last ranked in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Preseason Poll in 2012, coming in at No. 20 following its first trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, Georgia Tech said in the release.
As part of their ranking, the Yellow Jackets have been led by the trio of Sarah Bates, Eylia Love and Loyal McQueen, who in a recent preseason win over Clayton State earned a combined 52 points between them, according to the press release. Bates scored a grand total of 21 points shooting 7-for-11 from three-point range, while Love added five triples from long distance and Loyal McQueen added another 10 points to the scoreboard.
On Dec. 9, the Yellow Jackets will visit UConn, which is currently ranked at No. 2, according to the press release.
