Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has put himself in rare and distinct company.
Ryan passed for 342 yard in the team’s 27-20 win over the Jets in London on Oct. 10, making him just the seventh quarterback in NFL history to amass more than 5,000 completions over his career, according to the team website. With former Saints star Drew Brees reigning as the league’s all-time leader with 7,142 completions, Ryan joins Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger as the only active players to top the 5,000 mark, the Falcons said.
Ryan reached the mark with top two receivers Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage inactive and back home in the states, the team said.
With the Falcons (2-3) just five games into the 2021 season, Ryan has had no shortage of career memorable moments. In Week 2, he became the league’s all-time leader in passing yards through a player's first 14 seasons and a week later during the team’s 17-14 win over the Giants he became the 10th quarterback in NFL history to throw 350 passing touchdowns.
The other three members in the 5,000 completion club are Brett Favre (6,300), Peyton Manning (6,125) and Philip Rivers (5,277), the Falcons said.
