EMORY: Still time to register: Virtual, in-person options for Winship Win the Fight 5K

Fr

Emory issued the following announcement on Sept. 24,

You can walk or run; compete in person or log your miles virtually. But one thing is certain – if you participate in this year’s Winship Win the Fight 5K Walk/Run you’ll be helping to fight cancer.

Registration is still open for the race on Oct. 2. Since it was launched by Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in 2011, the 5K has raised more than $6.5 million. Thousands of cancer survivors, caregivers, researchers and community members have laced up their running shoes to take part. The money raised by the event has fueled important research at Winship, Georgia’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.

This year, a virtual race will also take place from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2, allowing more people to participate.

Suresh Ramalingam, MD, Winship’s executive director, has run the race with his family since its very first year.

“As we slowly make our way out of this pandemic, I’m happy that the 2021 Winship 5K will be an in-person event, with all the necessary safety precautions,” Ramalingam says. “Participating in the Winship 5K is an uplifting experience. It inspires hope and promotes the sense of community that is critical in our collective fight against cancer.”

You can learn more and register at the Winship Win the Fight 5K website.
