CITY OF ATLANTA: City Council Approves Several Items from Mayor Bottoms’ Legislative Agenda

City of Atlanta issued the following announcement on Sept. 20.

Several important items on Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ legislative agenda passed today in Atlanta City Council.

Department of Parks and Recreation Donations

To continue to fulfill the Department of Parks and Recreation’s mission of serving children and families through quality spaces, three legislations passed authorizing the City of Atlanta to accept donations to fund facility enhancements and site improvements to three City parks:

Atlanta Hawks Foundation donated approximately $65,000 to the Coan Park Recreation Center for site improvements.
Savannah College of Art and Design donated approximately $47,850 to resurface patches, repair cracks, refurbish backboards, repaint courts and other repairs at Arthur Langford Jr. Park.
Project Backboard donated approximately $47,850 to provide artistic design work from local artist George Baker III on the basketball courts at Parkway Wabash Park.

United Way of Greater Atlanta Agreement

Council approved legislation to authorize and extend an agreement with the United Way of Greater Atlanta, Incorporated for the COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program Administration through January 31, 2022 and add funding to total approximately $12 million. The agreement is intended to provide financial assistance for residents financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayoral Transition

To ensure a seamless transition for the next administration, legislation was approved to authorize the Chief Financial Officer to create a funding account for the mayoral transition and inauguration. This framework was not established when Mayor Bottoms took office in 2018.

LGBTQ Cultural Humility Training

With the growing number of Americans identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer (LGBTQ), legislation requiring all City of Atlanta employees to undergo LGBTQ cultural humility training was approved. The training intends to introduce policies and procedures that will educate employees about pronoun usage and increase knowledge on important topics relating to the LGBTQ+ community.
