Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin stated that the Supreme Court’s decision, which reaffirms presidential immunity for “core functions and official acts,” is a “victory for former President Trump” and a setback for Democrats who have allegedly used the “government against” him. Martin made her statement on July 1 in a Tea Party Patriots Action press release.

“This is a win for former President Trump, and a big defeat for the Democrats who have been weaponizing the government against Trump to interfere in this year’s election,” said Beth Martin, co-founder. “The Supreme Court has weighed in — presidents must have immunity for their core functions and official acts. We thank the Supreme Court for recognizing the importance of presidential immunity. The ruling is also a fresh reminder about the importance of the Supreme Court as the American people consider who their next President should be.”

According to the Supreme Court, due to the constitutional separation of powers, a former president is granted absolute immunity from prosecution for actions within his constitutional authority and presumptive immunity for other official acts, but no immunity for unofficial acts. This case, the first of its kind, required a detailed examination of presidential power, concluding that some immunity is necessary for actions taken in an official capacity during a presidency.

Tea Party Patriots is a nonprofit social welfare organization founded in 2009 whose mission is “to equip Americans with the resources and training they need to be engaged citizens and effective activists.”

Martin is a co-founder and current national coordinator of the Tea Party Patriots. She also works as a columnist for The Washington Times. She wrote and published Tea Party Patriots: The Second American Revolution along with co-author Mark Meckler. Martin attended Reinhardt University and also received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia.
