As Georgia approaches the 2025 legislative session, the Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC) is advocating for policies aimed at economic advancement, talent growth, and community enhancement. A primary focus is tort reform, which addresses litigation costs impacting insurance and business expenses. This initiative is part of a broader agenda to maintain Georgia and metro Atlanta as centers for innovation and opportunity.
In November 2024, Governor Kemp presented data supporting tort reform efforts in 2025. The state insurance department's report highlighted significant increases in tort claims and payouts from 2014 to 2023, posing challenges to Georgia’s business environment. "Ultimately, those costs are being passed down to consumers," the Chamber noted.
Governor Kemp's January proposal includes changes to the civil litigation system designed to protect both consumers and businesses while maintaining civil justice rights. The Chamber also focuses on other policy areas:
- Business Climate: Supporting legislation for economic prosperity.
- Infrastructure: Securing funding for transit improvements and communication networks.
- Talent Development and Education: Reducing disparities in education opportunities.
- Thriving Community: Enhancing Atlanta’s appeal as a place to work, live, and play.
The MAC emphasizes that addressing tort reform could alleviate legal and economic burdens, fostering regional prosperity. The Chamber remains committed to pro-business policies that sustain Georgia's status as a leading state for business.
The Metro Atlanta Chamber serves as a catalyst for regional prosperity by promoting economic growth across the 29-county metro area. For more information about their initiatives, visit www.MetroAtlantaChamber.com.
