Following a two-week international break, Atlanta United will host Houston Dynamo at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this weekend. Interim head coach Rob Valentino begins his second stint in charge of the 5-Stripes against a team they rarely encounter. The teams have met only three times previously, with the last meeting in July 2019. Atlanta holds a 2-1-0 (W-L-T) all-time record in the series, with both victories occurring at home and outscoring Houston 9-1.

Houston currently sits in seventh place in the Western Conference ahead of this weekend’s matchup. Here are key factors to watch for in Saturday's game:

**New Voice, New Beginnings**

Rob Valentino, who was 4-2-2 during his previous interim tenure in 2021, aims to boost team confidence as they enter the season's second half. With several road matches looming, securing three points at home is crucial.

Atlanta ranks high in various offensive categories but needs to convert more scoring opportunities. Improving set pieces is essential; Atlanta has scored only three goals from set pieces—all penalties—so far this season. An early set piece goal could set a positive tone for the match.

**Adjustments from Houston**

With major international tournaments like UEFA Euro 2024 and Copa América 2024 approaching, MLS teams must adjust their lineups accordingly. Houston will be without starting midfielder Coco Carrasquilla, while Atlanta will also miss some starters.

The 5-Stripes need to be vigilant about any adjustments made by Houston’s coach Ben Olsen. Key players include Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera and Ibrahim Aliyu, who leads Houston with four goals. Sebastian Kowalczyk and Amine Bassi also pose significant threats that Atlanta’s defense must contain.

**Opportunity for Players to Step Up**

After a challenging May, Atlanta now has an opportunity to regain momentum. Tactical changes or shifts in player mentality are necessary for reversing recent results. Thiago Almada and Xande Silva are among those expected to elevate their performances.

Fans can watch the match on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV at 7:30 pm ET or listen on Sports Radio 92.9 The Game (English) or La Mejor – AM 1600 (Spanish).
