ATLANTA—Mayor Andre Dickens issued a statement expressing his sorrow at the news of Louis Gossett Jr.'s passing. Gossett, an Emmy Award-winning actor who called Atlanta home, was remembered by the Mayor for his significant impact on the film industry and for being the first African American man to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

"We extend our condolences to Mr. Gossett's family, friends, and fans during this difficult time. May your memories bring comfort, and may his legacy continue to inspire future generations," Mayor Dickens said, acknowledging the loss of a talent that touched many lives.

Acknowledging Gossett's presence in the city, Mayor Dickens expressed gratitude for the privilege of having had him among the community. "As a city, we are grateful for the privilege of having had Louis Gossett Jr. among us, and we join together in honoring his life and contributions," he added, highlighting the significance of Gossett's contributions to the local and global film industry.
