ATLANTA – Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) has expressed his satisfaction with the passage of House Bill 1015, House Bill 1019, and House Bill 1021. In a statement released today, Speaker Burns emphasized the importance of cutting taxes and returning more money to Georgia taxpayers.
"Cutting taxes and returning more money to taxpayers continues to be a priority for the Georgia House of Representatives," said Speaker Burns. He further stated that the passage of these bills will result in over a billion dollars being returned to Georgia families, homeowners, and taxpayers.
The three bills collectively aim to provide significant tax relief. They include an acceleration of the state income tax cut from 5.75 percent to 5.39 percent, a doubling of the homestead exemption from $2,000 to $4,000, and an increase in the child tax deduction from $3,000 to $4,000 per child.
"These priorities will deliver significant relief to taxpayers across the state, put more money back into their pockets, and continue to boost our economy," added Speaker Burns. He highlighted that Georgia is already recognized as the best state in the country to live, work, and raise a family, and these tax cuts will further contribute to its economic prosperity.
Speaker Burns expressed his optimism for the swift passage of these bills by the Senate and the subsequent signature by Governor Kemp. The tax relief measures have garnered support from various stakeholders, and their implementation is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of Georgia residents.
The passage of House Bill 1015, House Bill 1019, and House Bill 1021 represents a significant step towards providing tax relief to Georgians. As the bills move forward in the legislative process, the focus remains on ensuring that Georgia taxpayers receive the benefits they deserve.
