State Representative Mandisha Thomas (D-South Fulton) had the pleasure of welcoming Minister Reverend Jekalyn Carr as the "Chaplain of the Day" for the Georgia House of Representatives on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

Rep. Thomas expressed her honor in introducing Jekalyn Carr, acknowledging her incredible talent and dedication to combining her gift of singing with her ministry work. Carr's ministry has had a profound impact on countless individuals worldwide, particularly during times of hardship. Rep. Thomas emphasized the resonance between Carr's ministry and the work of legislators in advocating for the people through policy and budget decisions.

From a young age, Jekalyn Carr demonstrated her remarkable talent and passion for gospel music. Under the guidance of her father Alan Carr, she earned a top five gospel album and received her first Stellar Gospel Music Award at the age of 16. Carr's talent continued to shine, earning her first Grammy award nomination at 18 years old. Since then, she has amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including four Dove Awards, six Stellar Awards, and five Grammy nominations. Her impact on the industry has been recognized through numerous other industry nominations.

However, Jekalyn Carr's influence extends beyond music. She is also a published author, actress, radio personality, serial entrepreneur, conference host, and a trailblazer in the world of fashion and fragrance. Her multifaceted contributions have not gone unnoticed. Carr received the President's Award in recognition of her work, and she was even presented with a key to the City of Fulton County in Georgia. Additionally, she holds the distinction of being the first gospel artist and songwriter to be inducted into the Women's Songwriters Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C.
