Donald Trump may be asked to appear before the special grand jury probing whether he and others sought to interfere with the state's 2020 election in Georgia as Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis tells FOX 5 Atlanta it has been in consideration.
This comes as a part of the investigation includes a Jan. 2, 2021 phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which the former president urged Raffensperger to find enough votes to overturn his loss in Georgia.
"All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have," FOX 5 reports Trump said during the call. "Because we won the state."
Several people that have already been subpoenaed to testify before the panel have now received letters from authorities informing them that they’re at risk of being indicted, with Willis known to have signed off on the so-called target letters to at least 16 alternate electors, who cast Electoral College votes for Trump in December 2020, FOX 5 reports.
According to the report, formed at the request of Willis, the special grand jury has been at work for the last two months, FOX 5 reports. Since the beginning, Trump has continued to insist that the election was stolen from him, despite the fact that numerous federal and local officials, a long list of courts, top former campaign staffers and even his own attorney general have all said there is no evidence of fraud in the 2020 election.
More recently, Willis has indicated that her team is also looking into a November 2020 call that U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) made to Raffensperger and false claims of election fraud that were made by former New York mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and others during December 2020 legislative committee hearings at the state Capitol.
