GEORGIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Georgia Chamber CEO on Proposed Suspension of Georgia Gas Tax

Georgia Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Mar. 9.

In response to Governor Brian Kemp’s efforts along with the General Assembly to suspend the fuel tax in the state of Georgia during this time of uncertainty, Chamber President and CEO, Chris Clark released the following statement today:

“With nearly half of Georgia’s workforce employed by a small business and with small businesses themselves comprising almost 99% of employers in the state, the suspension of the fuel tax is of critical importance. The relief this would bring to all those connected to this sector is tremendous. We also appreciate Governor Kemp’s commitment to critical infrastructure improvements in this state and willingness to keep funding transportation investments with alternative sources while the fuel tax is suspended.”

Recent data shows gas prices are at a record high at $4.173 surpassing the previous July 2008 record. This increase is the fastest pace since the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

“As part of our work to strengthen the supply chain within the state alongside partners such as the Georgia Transportation Alliance (GTA) we see the cost of doing business in Georgia remaining favorable with these measures in place which benefits all Georgians.”
