Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Aug. 23.
Today, the Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC) announced Ian Wyatt as the nonprofit’s vice president and principal economist. Wyatt – who previously served as Bank of America’s vice president/economist, developing advanced analytics and strategy in commercial lending – will work closely with board member companies, Chamber staff, outside firms, federal and state agencies to inform MAC’s ongoing strategy in the 29-county metro Atlanta region.
“It is an honor to join an organization with a rich, 150+ year history of improving economic outcomes for our residents,” Wyatt said. “The Chamber’s role in driving growth for our business community, advocating for open and equitable policies at the Capitol, and promoting our region’s one-of-a-kind culture, is a unique opportunity to help tell metro Atlanta’s story.”
Wyatt is a senior economist with 20+ years of experience and expertise in commercial portfolio strategy, industry analytics, macroeconomic forecasting, competitive intelligence and risk management. With Bank of America, Wyatt held several senior-level positions, including with the business strategy and analytics, industry risk, and industry and country risk groups.
Prior to joining the Bank of America, Wyatt served as a senior economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics, responsible for developing and evaluating forecasts of major macroeconomic variables, including GDP, inflation, employment, balance of trade and monetary policy. He has also authored and published multiple pieces for Monthly Labor Review.
“I welcome Ian Wyatt to the MAC team, where he will play a significant role in informing our regional approach, including our recent priorities in economic recovery, public health and racial equity,” said Metro Atlanta Chamber President and CEO Katie Kirkpatrick. “Ian’s strong background in macroeconomics, labor market statistics, and analysis are valuable assets as we look to the future of our region.”
Tom Cunningham, who served as the Chamber’s previous chief economist, passed away in December 2020, following a distinguished career with MAC and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Cunningham authored critical Chamber reports on the impact of major sporting events in the region as well as the state film tax credit and many others. Wyatt will lead MAC’s research team, previously managed by Cunningham.
Wyatt attended the University of Mary Washington, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in international affairs and economics. He completed his master’s degree in applied economics at Johns Hopkins University. He has two children, Emma (9) and Alex (5). He is passionate about improving the lives of young people through education and has volunteered teaching middle school after school classes or coaching high school sports
