Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has established its East Coast headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, as part of a broader expansion strategy. The new headquarters is located in the Junction Krog District along the Beltline’s Eastside Trail, placing Rivian within a community known for technology and innovation. The company also operates a retail storefront at Ponce City Market, which increases its visibility among local consumers.

Earlier this month, Rivian began construction on a $5 billion manufacturing facility east of Atlanta in Morgan and Walton counties. This facility is expected to cover 2,000 acres and aims to produce up to 400,000 electric R2 and R3 SUVs annually once operational. The plant is projected to create 7,500 full-time jobs by 2030 and provide an additional 2,000 construction jobs during the building phase.

The expansion comes at a time when the electric vehicle industry faces challenges such as supply chain issues and changes to federal incentives, including the reduction of a $7,500 tax credit for EV buyers. Despite these hurdles, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said: “The R2 is an incredible vehicle,” emphasizing that product quality remains strong regardless of available incentives. Rivian’s financial position is supported by up to $6.6 billion in loan backing from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Rivian’s investment represents one of Georgia’s most significant recent economic development projects and highlights the state’s growing role in clean energy manufacturing.
