After Week 11 of the NFL season, the NFC South division is narrowing to a contest between the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Panthers secured a 30-27 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, completing a season sweep against their divisional opponent and closing in on the Buccaneers, who lost to the Buffalo Bills.

As teams prepare for Week 12, both the Panthers and Buccaneers are seen as leading contenders for the division title with seven weeks remaining in the regular season.

The current standings place Tampa Bay at 6-4 overall (2-0 in division games), followed by Carolina at 6-5 (2-1), Atlanta at 3-7 (0-3), and New Orleans at 2-8 (1-1).

In their recent loss to Buffalo, Tampa Bay’s running back Sean Tucker delivered an impressive performance with 106 rushing yards on 19 carries and three total touchdowns. Safety Antoine Winfield Jr. tied for most tackles on his team during a game where defensive highlights were limited. However, defending explosive plays remains an issue for Tampa Bay; they have allowed 37 completions of at least 20 yards this season, ranking near the bottom of the league according to TruMedia. Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said, “We’re in a good place mentally. Our fight is outstanding. Our execution needs to be cleaned up.” The Buccaneers will next play against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Panthers’ victory over Atlanta was marked by quarterback Bryce Young’s standout performance—throwing for 448 yards and three touchdowns without any interceptions—and safety Tre’von Moehrig leading with 11 tackles while limiting receivers under his coverage. Despite these achievements, Carolina struggled on third downs, converting only six out of seventeen attempts—a rate below their season average. Head coach Dave Canales commented on his team’s resilience: “The character of this group that just continues to fight, continues to play. What we’re waiting for is for these guys to take the wheel, and to say, ‘This is our team, coach, we got it’. I had a bunch of guys coming out of the locker room today saying, ‘We got this. We got this.'” The Panthers will travel to face San Francisco next.

For Atlanta, running back Bijan Robinson accumulated 143 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns despite not maintaining momentum after halftime. Linebacker Ronnie Harrison led defensively with ten tackles and recorded a key sack but missed several tackles including one in overtime. Time-of-possession has become an issue for Atlanta; after controlling possession early in the season they have not exceeded thirty minutes in any of their last five games—winning when they do control possession but losing otherwise. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris stated: “We keep finding ways to make it tough. We certainly do that. Very winnable game for us. We’ve got to find a way to make a play.” Next up for Atlanta is an away game against New Orleans.

The Saints were idle during Week 11 due to their bye week but will host Atlanta in their upcoming match.
