Miguel Almirón and Tomás Jacob were named to the Major League Soccer Team of the Matchday on March 16 after their performances in Atlanta United FC’s 3-1 victory over Philadelphia Union. The two South American players contributed to all three goals, helping secure three points for their team.
The recognition highlights a strong start to the season for both players, with Almirón breaking Atlanta United’s all-time assists record by providing three assists in one match. Jacob, playing only his fourth game for the club, scored his first goal and was noted for his work rate throughout the match.
“I’m always going to highlight the work of my teammates,” Almirón said in Spanish after the match. “I think we’re all getting used to the system that Tata [Martino] wants to play, and this is the path forward.”
Jacob impressed with his versatility as a fullback, making key runs and scoring at the back post through effort and positioning. Emmanuel Latte Lath also made an impact by scoring his first goal of the season and showing selfless play during attacking moves.
