Mauricio Culebro has been named President of Soccer for AMB Sports and Entertainment, the company announced on Mar. 25. Culebro will oversee all operations for Atlanta United and NWSL Atlanta 2028, reporting directly to AMBSE CEO Rich McKay.
The appointment comes after a global search for a leader to guide both clubs. Atlanta United FC is a Major League Soccer team based in Atlanta, Georgia, competing in the Eastern Conference according to the official website. The club achieved significant success by winning the MLS Cup in 2018 as well as the U.S. Open Cup and Campeones Cup in 2019, according to the official website.
Culebro brings more than two decades of experience from top football organizations, including serving as president of Tigres UANL where he led both sporting and business operations across men’s and women’s teams. During his tenure at Tigres UANL, he helped secure multiple league titles and increased commercial revenue. He also held leadership roles at Club América and served as Chief Operating Officer for the Mexican Football Federation.
Arthur M. Blank said, “This is an exciting day as we welcome Mauricio to Atlanta and our family of businesses… Mauricio’s impressive experience and clear vision to elevate our clubs made him an outstanding fit to lead Atlanta United and NWSL Atlanta 2028.”
Culebro said, “It is an honor to join AMBSE’s highly successful leadership team… I am excited to put my experience, passion and commitment at the service of Atlanta United and NWSL Atlanta 2028.”
Culebro will collaborate with existing leaders within AMBSE as they prepare for NWSL-specific modifications at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and begin construction on a new training ground in Marietta—an investment exceeding $100 million with plans for multiple fields ahead of competition beginning in 2028.
