Matt Ryan, former NFL MVP and longtime Atlanta Falcons quarterback, has been introduced as the new president of football for the Atlanta Falcons. The announcement was made during his final appearance as an analyst on CBS’s NFL Today, where he discussed the upcoming wild-card game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills.
Ryan addressed questions from his CBS colleagues about his vision for the team. When asked by former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher what should be said about Falcons football in the future, Ryan responded: “The good part is that we’re coming out of your mouth and we’re talking about them at this time of the year. I think that is the vision for where we want to be. You want to be in the mix, in the playoffs and it has been too long there. We’re going to work really hard and find the right people to get us back into that position to be successful.”
Ryan emphasized that building a strong organization starts with people already within the franchise. “You guys know it: Football, it’s about the people,” Ryan said. “The building is about the people, and there are a lot of really good people in that building that are already there. It starts at the top with Arthur Blank and I am fortunate to be in this position, excited about the opportunity and ready to get started.”
Currently, Ryan is leading searches for both a new head coach and general manager. The Falcons have completed three interviews for their next head coach.
Ryan will return to Atlanta soon for a press conference scheduled for Tuesday at 11 a.m. ET alongside owner Arthur Blank and president and CEO Greg Beadles.
The Atlanta Falcons are based in Atlanta, Georgia, competing in the National Football League’s NFC South Division since joining as an expansion team in 1965 official website. The team has reached the Super Bowl twice—in 1998 and 2016 official website—and features Freddie the Falcon as its mascot official website.
