FOIA Request to Georgia State University Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Georgia State University. This request seeks detailed information about the university’s current Chinese National students and their affiliations.

The specific records requested under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. include:

1. Documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their department of study. If this information is protected, we have asked for the total number of such students and a breakdown by department.

2. Details regarding scholarships received by these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

3. A list of recipients of any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, unless this information is already covered in the previous request.

4. Policies or procedures describing how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of ATL Standard and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, reflecting our role in gathering and reporting news to ensure transparency and accountability within public institutions. As media professionals dedicated to informing the public, we have also requested a fee waiver for accessing these records.

Our efforts are supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. More information about our partner organization can be found at [stopsecrecy.org](https://stopsecrecy.org/about/).

We await Georgia State University’s response to this important inquiry into their handling of international student data and scholarship allocations.
