The Atlanta Falcons have added defensive tackle Sam Roberts to their active roster, the team announced Saturday. Roberts was previously a member of the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad, which was set at the end of August.
NFL regulations require that when a player is signed from another team’s practice squad, they must join the new team’s 53-man active roster rather than its practice squad.
The Falcons created an opening on their roster after releasing wide receiver David Sills V on Friday. Sills rejoined Atlanta’s practice squad on Saturday and was then designated as one of the standard elevations for game day.
Roberts joined the Panthers’ practice squad in November 2024. He moved up to their active roster in December and played in three games for Carolina.
Roberts entered the NFL in 2022 as a sixth-round draft pick by the New England Patriots. He was released during final roster cuts two years later and spent a month with the Chicago Bears’ practice squad before joining Carolina.
The Falcons will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
