The Atlanta Falcons have completed an interview with Andy Weidl for their open general manager position, following the departure of Terry Fontenot after the 2025 season. The search is being led by Matt Ryan, Falcons President of Football, with support from ZRG Partners and Sportsology Group.

“We’re looking for people that work well together,” said Ryan during his introductory press conference. “And that doesn’t mean best friends. You’ve got to have a professional and really strong working relationship. And sometimes that comes with seeing things a little bit differently. But the best of the best find ways to get to common ground.

“As we go through both of these searches, both the head coach and the GM, as we’re going along that lane at the same time, that’s what we’re looking for. We’re looking to find two people that we feel like are excellent in their role and what they’re asked to do but also can provide a really strong working relationship together.”

The Falcons recently hired Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach on January 17 and are now focused on finding a new general manager.

Andy Weidl is currently serving as assistant general manager for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has held this position since 2022, where he contributed significantly to improving the Steelers’ offensive line through both draft selections and free agency moves.

Weidl’s career includes six years with the Philadelphia Eagles in several personnel roles, culminating in vice president of player personnel before joining Pittsburgh. Earlier in his career, he worked in scouting positions with the Baltimore Ravens across multiple regions from 2005 to 2016.

During his time with front offices in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh, Weidl has been involved with teams during periods of notable success, including Super Bowl runs. He played a key role in assembling talent such as Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, Landon Dickerson, Jordan Davis, and Nakobe Dean while at Philadelphia.

In addition to working under figures like Ozzie Newsome and Howie Roseman, Weidl has collaborated with several current NFL general managers and assistant general managers throughout his career.

The Atlanta Falcons compete in the National Football League’s NFC South Division and are based in Atlanta, Georgia. The franchise was established as an expansion team in 1965 and has made two Super Bowl appearances—in 1998 and 2016—according to their official website. Freddie the Falcon serves as their mascot.

The organization will continue to announce interviews with other candidates as they occur.
