The Atlanta Falcons delivered a strong performance on Monday night, defeating the Buffalo Bills 24-14 in a game that many viewed as a test of their standing in the NFC. The win came against the league’s reigning MVP and a team considered by some as a Super Bowl contender.

Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. commented on the significance of the victory, saying, “It showed that we’re one of them ones. This team is really good. This team is really legit.”

Head coach Raheem Morris emphasized the team’s focus on actions over words. “You’ve got to go prove it,” Morris said at his press conference after the 2024 season. “And really, it’s about us just going to do it and not really talking about it.”

The Falcons’ defense limited the Bills to fewer than 300 total yards and 14 points. The pass rush was effective against Josh Allen, and the secondary managed to contain Buffalo’s receivers. The game concluded with a tipped interception, highlighting the defense’s impact.

Running back Bijan Robinson had a standout performance, rushing for 238 yards. His efforts were seen as confirmation of his status as one of the league’s top running backs.

Receiver Drake London also contributed significantly, catching 10 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown. He was targeted 16 times, stepping up in the absence of Darnell Mooney and Ray-Ray McCloud III. London nearly scored again on the final play of the first half but was ruled out at the 1-yard line.

The Falcons showed resilience during a third-quarter push by the Bills. London reflected on the team’s performance, stating, “When we button up all the stuff and we execute right, we’re a force to be reckoned with.”

Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen acknowledged Atlanta’s effort, saying, “The other guys are going to get paid, too. They’re game planning just as hard as we are. Flat out, they just played better than us tonight.”

Looking ahead, the Falcons will play the San Francisco 49ers on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 7. Coach Morris spoke about the team’s aspirations: “We want a playoff organization. We want to be able to compete in those type of games, and we played one tonight. There’s going to be no secret. Nobody is going to shy away from those moments. We’ve got to go do it, but those are the moments you want.”

With victories over the Minnesota Vikings, Washington Commanders, and Bills, Atlanta is now 3-1 against last season’s playoff teams. Their only loss came in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Linebacker Kaden Elliss commented on the atmosphere and the team’s goals: “To come out here and execute with night football in front of our crowd and in front of the Bills crowd too, it felt great. So, we just want to stack wins like that, change the culture here, and make something beautiful.”
