Before the start of the match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Brad Guzan was honored in his final appearance as a professional football player. The stadium crowd gave him a standing ovation as he entered the field, marking the end of a career that spanned two decades.

Guzan spoke openly about the difficulty of his decision to retire, and many anticipated an emotional evening. Fans applauded when he received a commemorative jersey before kickoff.

Throughout the match, Guzan remained focused. He made several key saves, including a notable diving stop and a last-minute save against D.C. United’s Benteke in the 40th minute. Despite conceding a second-half goal that resulted in a draw, Guzan and his teammates thanked supporters by walking around the pitch after the game.

Addressing fans after the match, Guzan said: “GUUUZ” chants were inescapable.

He also delivered an impassioned speech promising improvement from Atlanta United following a challenging season. His remarks resonated with those present at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Guzan was awarded the Golden Spike of Excellence in front of The Gulch and spent time with teammates and family on the field. In his retirement announcement press conference, he emphasized how important his family had been throughout his career.

After more than 260 matches and four trophies with Atlanta United, Guzan concluded his playing career but indicated he would remain involved in football moving forward.
