Atlanta United youth players receive national team call-ups ahead of new season

Two players from Atlanta United 2 and seven from the club’s Academy have been called up to youth national teams for the September FIFA window, according to an announcement from the club on September 3, 2025.

James Donaldson, a goalkeeper who recently signed his first professional contract with ATL UTD 2 and is set to become a Homegrown signing in January 2027, was selected for the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team training camp taking place September 1-8 in Fayetteville, Georgia. Donaldson recorded seven clean sheets during the 2024-25 season with Atlanta United Academy and received the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award at this spring’s Generation adidas Cup.

Santiago Pita was called up to the U.S. U-19 Men’s National Team for its training camp also running September 1-8 in Fayetteville. The forward has appeared six times for ATL UTD 2 this season, registering two assists. Pita previously represented Venezuela in July and the United States in May at youth level, winning the UEFA Friendship Cup alongside teammates Dominik Chong Qui, Kaiden Moore, and Braden Dunham.

Jonathan Ransom will join Canada’s U-17 Men’s National Team for a training camp in Spain from August 30 to September 10. During this period, Canada is scheduled to play Morocco on September 4, Uzbekistan on September 6, and England on September 9. Ransom has made eight appearances as a goalkeeper for Atlanta United 2 this season and secured three wins.

The club’s Academy also had several call-ups within the United States youth system. Fred Bond, Joshua Brown, David Ilevbare, and Kai Martinez were selected for the U16 team; Blessed Chea and Santi Suarez were chosen for the U-15 team.

The Atlanta United Academy season begins Saturday, September 6. Atlanta United 2 (record: 7-8-8, with 31 points) will resume play Saturday, September 13 when it visits Carolina Core FC at Truist Point Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET.
