Atlanta United Unified completed its 2025 season unbeaten after a 2-0 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday night. The team, which had traveled to cities including Toronto, Austin, and Houston during the season, extended its multi-year undefeated streak with the win.
Supporters filled the stadium with chants such as “We are the A” and “Vamos Atlanta” as the match began. In the early minutes, Dee Harden made a save for Atlanta United Unified. Both teams played on a full-length field for the first time this season, creating chances but remaining scoreless through halftime.
Players from Atlanta United’s First Team attended to support their Unified counterparts. Brad Guzan and Jay Fortune served as ambassadors and were present on the sideline and in the coach’s box. Matt Edwards and Will Reilly also watched from the stands.
Xavier Hairston nearly scored late in the first half but was denied by Toronto’s goalkeeper. The teams entered halftime tied 0-0.
In the second half, Alex Evans broke away from three defenders to score in the 32nd minute, putting Atlanta ahead. Hairston struck again in the 52nd minute after receiving a cross from Savion Brown—his childhood best friend—bringing his career total to 17 goals for Atlanta United Unified.
Luke Edwards had another chance late in the game with a chip shot that narrowly missed. The final whistle confirmed Atlanta United Unified’s victory and another undefeated season.
Each Unified team consists of Special Olympics athletes with developmental disabilities alongside partners without disabilities. Teams use free substitutions so all players can participate throughout matches. The program aims to provide an inclusive environment where athletes train, travel, and compete together across North America.
Atlanta United Unified is set to return for its next campaign in 2026.
