Atlanta United announced that two of its players have been selected to participate in the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from November 3 to 27. Midfielder Cooper Sanchez will represent the United States, while goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom has been called up by Canada. Additionally, Seyi Fakiyesi, a defender from Atlanta United’s U-16 Academy, is listed as an injury replacement for Canada.

Cooper Sanchez, aged 17, signed a Homegrown contract with Atlanta United on August 5, 2025 after playing two seasons with ATL UTD 2. This season, he made his First Team debut in a Leagues Cup match against Atlas and played his first MLS game against Columbus Crew. With ATL UTD 2, Sanchez started in 16 out of 19 appearances and scored his first professional goal against Huntsville City on August 30. He also contributed two assists.

The United States team, coached by Gonzalo Segares, will compete in Group I at the tournament. Their schedule includes matches against Burkina Faso on November 5 (10:45 a.m. ET/Universo), Tajikistan on November 5 (9:45 a.m. ET/Telemundo), and Czechia on November 11 (9:45 a.m. ET/Universo). Sanchez has started five times in his seven appearances for the U.S. U-17 Youth National Team.

Jonathan Ransom signed his first professional contract with ATL UTD 2 on October 13, 2025. The 17-year-old started all thirteen games he played this season and became the youngest goalkeeper in ATL UTD 2 history to keep a clean sheet during a win over Orlando City B on May 25, 2025. Ransom recorded a team-high of thirty-seven saves this year, kept two clean sheets, and had a save percentage of sixty-five percent.

Canada’s squad is led by coach Mike Vitulano and will play in Group K against Uganda on November 5 (10:45 a.m. ET/Telemundo), France on November 8 (8:30 a.m. ET/Telemundo), and Chile on November 11 (7:30 a.m. ET/FOX Sports). Ransom has one clean sheet in four appearances for Canada’s U-17 Youth National Team and was credited with saving two penalties during a shootout win over the United States’ team on June 7, 2025.

According to Atlanta United, Sanchez and Ransom are now the eighth and ninth players from the club to participate at a FIFA U-17 World Cup event. Matches will be available for streaming via NBC Sports Universe.
