Atlanta United will face the New England Revolution in an Eastern Conference matchup as both teams are already out of playoff contention. The match, which takes place in New England, marks the second game for Revolution interim head coach Pablo Moreira after he replaced Caleb Porter two weeks ago. New England is currently 11th in the conference standings with 32 points, five more than Atlanta United. The Revolution recently lost to Philadelphia Union 1-0.
Atlanta United begins a series of three consecutive road matches, including games against LAFC and Inter Miami before returning home to play D.C. United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Decision Day. Atlanta’s most recent result was a 1-1 draw at home against San Diego FC, while their last away game ended in a 1-0 victory over Nashville.
For this match, Atlanta will use the same starting lineup that played against San Diego FC. Defenders Juan Berrocal and Stian Gregersen are expected to anchor the defense again. In midfield, Bartosz Slisz and Steven Alzate will start, while Alexey Miranchuk continues as the team’s central attacking midfielder. Team captain Miguel Almirón moves to the left wing.
Jamal Thiaré will start up front for a fourth consecutive MLS regular season match—a first for him in league play—though he has started four straight matches before in other competitions such as last year’s MLS Cup Playoffs. Emmanuel Latte Lath is available off the bench. Several players are unavailable due to injury: Matt Edwards, Jay Fortune, and Will Reilly; Luke Brennan is absent as he joins the U.S. U-20 national team for the U-20 World Cup.
The full starting XI for Atlanta United: Jayden Hibbert (goalkeeper); Ronald Hernández, Stian Gregersen, Juan Berrocal, Pedro Amador (defenders); Bartosz Slisz, Steven Alzate, Alexey Miranchuk (midfielders); Miguel Almirón (captain), Saba Lobjanidze, Jamal Thiaré (forwards). Reserves include Brad Guzan, Leo Afonso, Dom Chong Qui, Emmanuel Latte Lath, Brooks Lennon, Enea Mihaj, Tristan Muyumba, Cooper Sanchez and Cayman Togashi.
Last weekend marked Miguel Almirón’s 100th appearance across all competitions for Atlanta United; he now ranks second on the club’s all-time scoring list with 27 goals behind Josef Martínez.
Jamal Thiaré leads the club with an average of 1.5 shots on target per match this season.
Atlanta has scored seven goals over its past five matches.
Saba Lobjanidze has created more chances than any other player on the team this season with twelve.
