Atlanta United FC is preparing for its first home match of the 2026 season at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, introducing eight new players to its roster. The club, which operates from Atlanta, Georgia and competes in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference, made several offseason moves under Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson and head coach Tata Martino. These additions aim to strengthen various positions on the field.
Among the new signings is Tomás Jacob, a 21-year-old Argentine who joined from Club Necaxa in December. Jacob has quickly adapted to his role with Atlanta United, winning 20 duels in his first two matches—second most through two matches in club history. Another Argentine addition is Elías Báez, also 21, who has started both opening games as left back and occupies a U-22 initiative roster spot.
Veteran goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos arrives from Newell’s Old Boys at age 36. He brings experience and leadership to the squad and has already taken on a mentoring role with younger players. The team’s latest signing is Paraguayan midfielder Galarza, who joins after a loan deal was completed. At just 24 years old but with over 150 professional appearances—including international play alongside Miguel Almirón—Galarza will add depth once he integrates into the lineup.
The attack sees reinforcements with veteran forwards Sergio Santos and Fafa Picault joining as free agents. Santos brings MLS experience from previous stints at FC Cincinnati, Philadelphia Union (where he won the Supporters’ Shield in 2020), and Houston Dynamo. Picault most recently played for Inter Miami CF and contributed to an MLS Cup Champion side last season.
Midfielder Adrian Gill returns to the United States after developing at Barcelona’s La Masia academy and playing for FC Barcelona B. At age 20, Gill adds competition in defensive midfield roles for Atlanta United.
Homegrown player Santiago Pita rounds out the group of newcomers. The Venezuelan American midfielder/forward has been part of Atlanta United’s Academy system and featured for Atlanta United 2 over the past two years.
Atlanta United FC achieved notable success by winning the MLS Cup in 2018 as well as other titles such as the U.S. Open Cup and Campeones Cup in 2019 (official website). As preparations continue for Saturday night’s home opener against Real Salt Lake, fans are encouraged to welcome these new faces at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
