Atlanta United 2 secured a 5-2 victory against Chicago Fire FC II in Bridgeview, Illinois, on September 28, 2025. The win keeps Atlanta United 2 in ninth place in the standings, just one point away from a playoff position as MLS NEXT Pro Decision Day approaches.

The match began with Atlanta earning a penalty kick in the 12th minute after Patrick Weah was fouled inside Chicago’s half. Weah converted the penalty for his eighth goal of the season. In the 32nd minute, Santiago Pita set up Weah for another attack; Weah then assisted Gabriel Wesseh, who scored with a one-touch shot off the left post.

Atlanta extended its lead to 3-0 ten minutes later when Wesseh intercepted Chase Nagle and attempted a shot that was saved by Chicago’s goalkeeper Owen Pratt. The rebound fell to Weah, who scored his second goal of the match.

Chicago responded before halftime with a penalty kick after Ronan Wynne was called for handball. Jason Shokalook converted to make it 3-1 at the break.

In the second half, Sal Mazzaferro added Atlanta’s fourth goal in the 63rd minute from a corner delivered by Wesseh. In the closing minutes, Arif Kovac scored his first professional goal following an assist from Ignacio Suarez-Couri. Dylan Borso added a late goal for Chicago Fire FC II but could not change the outcome.

Following this result, Atlanta United 2 will play Chattanooga FC at Finley Stadium on October 5 at 1 p.m. ET. Some matches are available through an MLS Season Pass subscription on Apple TV; others are streamed live on MLSNEXTPro.com.

“Wesseh played a corner to the near post where the captain met it unmarked, looping the header into the back post to score his third of the season.”
