The Atlanta Falcons announced on Mar. 12 the signing of free agent wide receiver Jahan Dotson.
Dotson, a former first-round draft pick, joins the Falcons as they look to strengthen their receiving corps ahead of the new NFL season. The move comes after the team released receivers Darnell Mooney and KhaDarel Hodge, leaving open spots alongside established player Drake London.
Dotson, who was selected 16th overall by the Washington Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft, started 26 games for Washington before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2024 offseason. Over four seasons in the league, he has played in 63 games with 42 starts and recorded 121 catches for 1,519 yards and 12 touchdowns. At Penn State’s NFL Combine in 2022, Dotson ran a 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds.
After signing with Atlanta, Dotson described his arrival as a “fresh start.” He said, “I feel like (their scheme) tailors to my skillset specifically, being able to move inside, outside. My versatility as a receiver, playing everywhere on the field. They do a great job moving their playmakers around and putting them in advantageous situations to make plays for the team and I feel like that’s something I can buy into and can fit very well into.”
The Falcons compete in the National Football League’s NFC South division according to their official website. The team is based in Atlanta, Georgia according to their official website and began as an expansion franchise in 1965 according to their official website. The franchise has advanced to two Super Bowls—in 1998 and again in 2016 according to their official website. Freddie the Falcon serves as its mascot according to their official website.
With free agency underway following Wednesday’s start of the new league year at 4 p.m., teams across the league are finalizing trades and signings.
