adidas has introduced the TRIONDA, the official match ball for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The announcement marks the start of preparations for the tournament, which will take place across North America next June, with matches scheduled at venues including Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The TRIONDA’s design features red, green, and blue colors to represent the three host countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The four-panel construction is a new development intended to improve performance. The panels meet in a triangle at their centers, symbolizing unity among the hosts.

Distinctive symbols appear on each panel to honor each nation: a star for the USA, a maple leaf for Canada, and an eagle for Mexico. These icons are displayed as bold graphics and are also embossed onto the matte surface of the ball.

Gold detailing is used throughout the design as a tribute to the FIFA World Cup trophy. According to adidas, these elements combine visual appeal with technical benefits.

The four-panel structure includes deep seams and both debossed and embossed lines designed to ensure optimal stability during flight by evenly distributing drag. The embossed country icons are also said to enhance grip in wet or humid conditions.

Sam Handy, General Manager at adidas Soccer, stated: “With TRIONDA, every detail has an impact. The embossed textures, layered graphics and bold colours make the ball stand out instantly, creating a design that feels alive in your hands. It’s the most visually playful FIFA World Cup ball we’ve ever created – a piece of craftsmanship built for the biggest stage, that makes you want to hold it, admire it, and above all, play with it.”

The TRIONDA incorporates an updated version of adidas Connected Ball Technology. A new side-mounted 500Hz inertial measurement unit (IMU) chip is integrated into one panel rather than being center-mounted. Counterweights are placed in other panels to maintain balance and flight stability.

This technology provides real-time data on ball movement to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) systems. When combined with player tracking data and artificial intelligence tools developed with Kinexon, it assists officials in making faster offside calls and identifying touches on the ball more accurately.

Solene Stoermann, Category Director at adidas said: “Football creates joy – and no other tournament encapsulates that joy like a FIFA World Cup. For the first time, we’ll see it travel across three countries, and with that, comes an Official Match Ball worthy of the occasion. As soon as the tournament hosts were announced, we knew we had to make something special – a ball that can be played everywhere, from the backyard to the world’s biggest stage. Next summer, TRIONDA is set to be a main character in the biggest show on earth, and we cannot wait for fans and players to enjoy the moment.”

The TRIONDA match ball is available now for $170 through adidas retail stores as well as selected retailers and online at https://www.adidas.com/us/fifa_world_cup-balls.
